My View from the Back Porch

-A New Year’s Resolution to Trust-

As I marveled over the first sunrise of 2025, I was taken away by the beauty of the sky.  A starburst of colors consisting of soft rays of gold, yellow, red, and purple danced across the sky, creating a breathtaking backdrop for every still and moving object. The beautiful view went on for miles and miles across the rooftops and through the trees. As the heart of the sun continued to rise and the leaves rustled underneath my feet from the chill of the morning air, I thought of the Creator, the one who made and continues to make all things. This morning's sight is a reminder for me that nothing is beyond God's ability.

God, thank you for not only allowing me to make it to this new year but also for allowing me to witness such a beautiful sight. Thank you for all that you have done for me, my family and friends, and the Tell of His Grace Community over the last year.

I pray for blessings over my family and friends and for the person who is reading this and their family and friends as well. I also pray that 2025 is a year of trusting in You more for us all. Not just surface-level trust but a forever-knowing and secure type of trust. The kind of trust that Solomon reminds us of in Proverbs Chapter 3.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV-

Trust is an action word. The Hebrew translation for trust, batach, means to place one's weight fully on something sturdy or dependable. Falling through with this action requires us to have a wholehearted dependence on someone or something with the assurance that they are reliable and will not fail. God will not fail! With trust and knowing that He is a God who will not fail, we should not rely on our own understanding, plans, and ways. He can sustain us!  He has the ability and desire to uphold, strengthen, and provide for us in every area of life—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. When we seek God first and rely on Him in all we do, He will make our paths straight.

My friend, as we gear up to have a wonderful 2025, here’s to a year of trust and to a year that is just as beautiful as the morning sky view described above. This year, let us truly lean into knowing and trusting that God is who He says He is and that He will never fail! May His promises, character, and provision continue to lead to a sense of peace and assurance in every circumstance we face this upcoming year.

For 2025, in what areas of your life do you need to trust Him more?
